Know your neighbors
The most important step you can take to get through times of disaster and stress is to connect.
Everyone has something to contribute to their community before, during and after disasters. That's why Neighborhood Response Groups are supported in our
region by the Central Marin Fire Department, dedicated staff, and through partnerships with agencies across Marin County.
A Neighborhood Response Group can be 2 households or a group of 10-20. They could be homes on your street or a floor in your apartment building. The important thing is to make it work for you and your neighbors.
Block Captains are the backbone of the program. Block Captains start by reaching out to neighbors, finding out what support neighbors need, and who can offer assistance or resources in a disaster.
When disasters happen and people need support, neighbors turn to neighbors.
Block Captains are volunteers who help raise awareness, organize before disasters, and can offer support to their neighborhood during and after disasters. You'll have the opportunity to participate in emergency preparedness training and connect directly to local resources. But remember, you don't have to do it alone.
Build on the community you already have. In the event of a disaster, it’s likely not everyone will be home at the same time, so the more people who know what to do, the better.
